Confessions of a Wino

George Perry and his wife, April
I’d like to say that I can remember a time when wine wasn’t a part of my life, but I really can’t, which is sad since I’m only 28. I grew up with parents that enjoyed wine, and were happy to let me explore it with them (though in moderation). Part of this probably has to do with spending 5 years in Germany and making numerous trips to large wine producing areas – I spent a Spring in Italy helping to pick grapes.
As I grew older, I branched out from the sweeter wines that you would let a curious child sample to fuller, more robust wines, finally finding my home in the world of red wines. Finding myself working in the restaurant business, I quickly worked my way behind the bar and became known as the wine expert to all of my co-workers.
After graduating college, I moved to Richmond, Virginia, where I reside now with my wife, and took a job working for a Richmond SEO company, discovering that bartending just wasn’t going to pay the bills any more. As a creative outlet for my love of wine, I started this site in January of 2009, after having experimented with another site (The $20 Sommelier).
I write wine reviews only about wine I’ve tasted, and thus make it a point to try as many wines as I can (much to my wife’s chagrin). I’m always looking to try new wine, so if you have suggestions of wines I should try, or want to get my opinion before you buy something, please feel free to contact me at: thegoodwineguru@gmail.com . I’ll do my best to accomodate all requests.
